After getting a spring 2020 release window back at E3 2019, developer InXile has confirmed that Wasteland 3 will drop on May 19, 2020. The game is due to launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC via Steam, with pre-orders now available.

The upcoming third entry will see a major switch in scenery from the irradiated Arizona desert to a snowy Colorado wasteland. However, it will see the return of several characters from previous games in the series.

Wasteland 3 was originally funded via a Fig campaign, but since that time InXile, along with fellow classic RPG developer Obsidian, was scooped up by Microsoft.

Following news of that 2018 acquisition, fans were concerned the game may not come to all the originally promised platforms due to Microsoft’s connection to the Xbox console, but this newest announcement seems to indicate Fig backer rewards will be honored on their original forms.

Wasteland 3 is also notably expected to be legendary game producer Brian Fargo’s last project with InXile. Fargo had this to say in an interview with Eurogamer:

The latest trailer for Wasteland 3 also debuted at X019 in London and can be seen at the top of this article. It offers a new look at the game’s post-apocalyptic Colorado setting, and the lives at stake in this reactive and tactical roleplaying game.

I love this industry, but I’ve been at this since 1981. I’ve been at it with Ken and Roberta Williams [Sierra co-founders], Trip Hawkins [EA founder], the guys from Brøderbund — I look at my friends, they have a lot more spare time than I do. It’s a very intense business. It’s all encompassing. It seems like I should relax for a little bit.

Though Wasteland 3 was one of our most anticipated RPGs of 2019, it looks like we’ll have just a bit longer to wait before we finally get our hands on it. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news and information Wasteland 3 as it develops.
