So how does it work? From 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. New Year’s Day, the MUNI stations will have their gates open for people to pass through freely, clipper card gates will be covered to not charge people and MUNI METRO tickets will not be accepted. This year’s Ride Muni Free New Year’s Eve is sponsored by 76. “76 and SFMTA invite you to Ride Muni free on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on all lines and routes and leave the driving to Muni! We wish you a safe holiday season by being a passenger, not a driver. Happy holidays! We’re on the driver’s side” said Bree Januhowski, 76 Brand Manager.
